HKS GT Supercharger Test Results for the Honda S2000

Evasive Motorsports has been working with HKS to bring their highly anticipated Honda S2000 GT Supercharger kit to the states. We have been retro-fitting the kit for the left-hand drive version of the S2000. Some minor changes, such as moving the battery, AC lines, fuse box, needed to be finalized for HKS to make additional brackets and instructions for a clean and easy install.

Keisuke Morita of HKS flew in from Japan to meet with both Evasive Motorsports and Doug Macmillan of Hondata to figure out a tuning solution that’s optimal for the consumer. Considering many S2000 (AP2) owners already have Hondata’s FlashPro unit, this seems to be the best route in tuning the HKS GT Supercharger kit. Keisuke and Doug spent an entire day fine tuning the supercharger on the Evasive Motorsports Time Attack S2000, pulling on our Mustang Dyno. Everything went pretty smooth, and we were all very satisfied with the results.

HKS and Hondata plan on offering a base MAP for the FlashPro that will tune the kit out of the box. For AP2 owners who already have the FlashPro, they’ll be able to download the MAP and save some money since this will pass some cost savings back to the consumer. For AP1 users, HKS is still deliberating on what solution will be best.

Dyno Graph of HKS GT Supercharger kit with High Boost Upgrade, max power and torque results shown. Notice the consistent increase in power and torque. The motor has completely factory internals. The only additions are header and custom race exhaust with oem cat removed. Therefore, similar results can be anticipated when installing the kit on a stock S2000.

Dyno Graph of HKS GT Supercharger kit, out of the box version vs. High Boost Upgrade.

Out of the box, the HKS GT Supercharger Kit produced 310.33 whp and 212.77 tq at approximately 10 psi. HKS feels that this will be suitable for a reliable daily driving setup. Alternatively, HKS has also developed a high boost upgrade option for more the more competitive enthusiast. With the use of a smaller pulley, we were able to increase boost level to approximately 12.5 psi. This increased gains to 324.23 whp and 221.17 tq. Needless to say, we feel that most of the S2000 community will opt for the high boost upgrade.

The final test was to take the car to the track. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to clock our lap time with the usual CW13 configuration at Buttonwillow Raceway, as they were re-paving part of the race track. But we did get satisfying results as power and torque remained consistent on the S2000 throughout the entire day. To sum it up, the S2000 felt like a high powered NA car, able to shoot out of every corner with increasing power.

Here’s a view of the engine bay with the HKS GT Supercharger installed. The Evasive Time Attack S2000 didn’t have much clearance issues within the engine bay, but we’ve double-checked fitment on another S2000 which had all factory parts intact to ensure there are no problems.

The HKS GTS7040 doesn’t look that intimidating at first, but it definitely packs a mean punch.

Originally, the intake filter and induction pipe sat above the exhaust manifold. This raised some concerns about overheating. Luckily, it was only a prototype and has been replaced with a new pipe that leads to the front of the motor. We cut out our headlight and fabricated an additional duct, directing air flow to the new location of the HKS filter.

As mentioned above, HKS will offer an optional High Boost Upgrade Kit that will include a smaller pulley which will increase the boost level. The upgrade kit will likely include larger fuel injectors as well. We were using 700cc injectors during testing.

The HKS front mount intercooler fills up the entire opening within the front bumper of the S2000. We had to mount it at an angle on our S2000 due to slight interference with our brackets for the Voltex splitter and undertray.

HKS plans to launch production of the U.S. version of the kit sometime late November. We should see it available for purchase early next year. HKS plans to keep the kit competively priced around $6k, complete as you see, including intercooler and Hondata ECU tune.

Evasive Motorsports would like to thank HKS for the opportunity to be part of this project. We would also like to thank the S2000 community for being patient with the release of this kit. For those who have loved HKS products throughout the years, you won’t be disappointed with the quality and craftsmanship that you’ve been accustomed to.

Evasive Motorsports will be competing with the new HKS GT Supercharger on the Time Attack S2000 at this year’s Super Lap Battle finale, November 7th at Buttonwillow Raceway. Please come out to see the new setup! We look forward to having your support.
